MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF THE
RAYMORE-PECULIAR BAND BOOSTERS CLUB, INC.
January 8. 2019

The regular meeting of the Raymore-Peculiar Band Boosters Club was held in the cafeteria at South Middle School.  Those in attendance were: Melissa Hogan, Trina Westhues, Kelli Hurley, Laurel Baumgardner, Fred Baumgardner, Faye Tait, Catie Howlett, Jennifer Story, Tricia Kelley, John Wilson, Arla Beneke, Susan McCamish, Libby Craig, Tamarah Pritchard, Donna Burge, Aaron Howlett, Jen Inman, Candy Peterson, Amber Bramble, Travis Houston, Mr. Lawlman (student teacher)


The meeting was called to order by President Trina Westhues at 7:55pm.

• Meeting Expectations and Bylaws Objectives:
  
  • Assist the RP Band program and directors
    
  • Promote enthusiasm and commitment to band among students, parents, school board and communities
    
• Support instrumental music education throughout the district
  
• To raise funds to finance or partially finance activities related to music education
  

Business Reports:  

• The minutes from the November 13, 2018  meeting were reviewed. Motion to approve minutes -Faye Tait, seconded Trina Westhues. No discussion
  

Treasurer’s  Report: Faye Tait and Diana Edgecomb

• No treasurer report
  

Committee Reports:

Color Guard-

• got new floor, hiccup-1st floor weighed too much, 2nd floor not arriving until February. Still using old floor until then. 8 members-work in progress. They like the new coach.
  

Fundraising -Kelli Hurley

• We need a Chair
  
• Polar Express Night Recap- $1400 made. Kids probably made $2.25/hr less if have to pay back $500 initial fund. Not sure if that $500 was a gift or expected to be repaid- discussion tabled until February.
  
• Father/Daughter Dance-Kelli Hurley
  

Theme- Boots and Bling-- Feb 2nd. Cupcakes -color guard only. Watch for sign up genius for work assignments and cookie signups. 15 parents needed the night of the dance. Weekly work sessions Tuesdays 6:30-8 and Saturdays 9:30-noon. DJ is lined up. Need paint in pink, red, white, brown and black if you can donate,

• LulaRoe Fundraiser during October 23rd concert successful, waiting for check from LulaRoe.

Uniforms – Jen Inman

• We are in need of 8 long garment bags for girls dresses ~cost $150. Jen needs help getting marching band uniforms checked in.  Uniform coordinator needed for next year. Biggest hindrance is alterations. Checking into the possibility of using a company for alterations and making part of band fees.
  
• Motion made to buy garment bags by Jen and seconded by Trina. Approved pending final approval by Diana Edgecomb.

Director’s Report:

• Brian Lawlman- Student teacher this semester
  
• School board approved starting an Orchestra program- not sure how it will affect the band and choir programs
  
• Uniforms are 10 years old
  
• Drumline instruments are 15 years old
  
• Solos/Ensembles-finding music
  
• Jazz performance Feb 2
  
• There will be special Nashville rehearsals-TBA
  
• Money earned by students can be used by parents, but not given to unrelated students
  

New Business

• Approval for Trey and Caron for boosters to pay for Nashville trip if not comped by World Strides

Upcoming Events:


The mattress sale in January 27th at RP High School Gym. Students make $125 or more for every full size bed or bigger sold. We have sold up to 50 mattresses in a day. This is an easy fundraiser. Many people you know are looking for a mattress. You just have to get the word out about our fundraiser.

We will have rehearsal on January 21st Jazz Band 1 from 3:00-4:30 P.M. Jazz 2 from 4:30-6:00 P.M. Very important rehearsal

January 28, 29, and 30 rehearsals resume both bands
