Band Mission Statement
The East Middle School Band Program is designed for all its students to have a place to belong and to grow as musicians. Through band we are committed to helping our students develop life skills, create friendships, be kind citizens and strong leaders.
6th Grade Beginning Band
6th Grade Beginning Band is a super fun and an exciting year-long class designed to help students learn to play a band instrument and perform within an ensemble. Students will have class every other day where they will learn the basics of how to produce a good sound, read and perform music notation, but most importantly, meet lots of new friends! Students will have daily at-home practice assignments and will perform two to three concerts per school year. Band Learning Power Standards & Learning Targets
Power Standard 1: The Student will demonstrate the qualities of an intelligent musician.
1.1 I can play rhythmic patterns.
1.2 I can play pitches correctly.
1.3 I can play with good tone.
1.4 I can interpret and apply terms and symbols.
1.5 I can listen and play with appropriate balance and blend.
1.6 I can play with good intonation.
1.7 I can practice positive participation in daily rehearsals.
Power Standard 2: Students will develop and refine intelligent musicianship skills in a variety of performance settings.
2.1 I can apply intelligent musicianship skills in a variety of performance settings.
2.2 I can adjust balance, blend, and intonation while playing within an ensemble.
2.3 I can interpret conductor gestures.
2.4 I can apply performance etiquette in a concert setting.
