All-State Band Results

Ray-Pec Band students travelled to Hickman High School in Columbia, MO to compete against 1300 other students for seats in the All-State Band. This event is one of the most competitive and challenging groups for a high school student to make.

Tammy Yang (left) is a sophomore percussionist. She earned the top spot for Mallet Percussion making her the #1 mallet percussionist in the state. Tammy also earned the Honorable Mention spot for Timpani Percussion. Tammy will spend several days rehearsing at the Missouri Music Educators Association conference in January with a performance on the final day.

Zane Brown (center) is a sophomore trumpet player. He was named 9th chair Honorable Mention. Zoe Goodwin (right) is a senior clarinet player. She was named 19th chair Honorable Mention.

Not pictured is Doug Adolphson who was made callbacks in the trombone section. This means he was in the top 30 students and played a second audition.

Eagle Project - Band Trailer Updates

Eagle Scout candidate, Doug Adolphson, renovated and improved the Panther Pride band's semi trailer for his Eagle Scout project. Doug is a junior at Ray-Pec High School and plays trombone in the marching band. Doug is the son of Alec and Julie Adolphson.

Description of eagle project.

Clean and Repair Ramps
We took the two back ramps to Contract Trailer Services in Kansas City for only the cost of labor They took the weak shorter ramp and replaced it with a good one that they had to trim to match our other back ramp. Now we have two safe strong ramps that are the exact same length for the back of the trailer. All the ramps were also looked over and any loose hardware was tightened and pressure washed.

Replace Mud Flaps
We had dry rotted and mismatched mudflaps on the trailer. The old hardware was removed and in some cases it had to be cut and drilled out. New mud flaps were trimmed to size and mounted with new hardware.

Folding floor
A second floor was added to the front of the trailer to give 2 storage levels. It can be folded up to give easier access to the ground floor when loading and unloading.

Uniform Racks
Two roiling racks were built out of steel. The two racks can hold up to 200 uniforms and hats as well as up to 40 color guard flag bags. The racks were designed, material was procured, then they were assembled, washed, primed, and painted. These racks will speed up loading and unloading the trailer so families will not have to sit and wait all night in the parking lot for the trailer to get back from competitions.

Winch
A winch was permanently mounted in the trailer to load and unload the uniform racks when they are heavy with uniforms. A high capacity, deep cell battery was also installed to run the winch and a good battery charger was purchased to maintain the battery.

Shelving
Some shelves were removed to provide space for the rolling racks. Other shelves were adjusted and some were moved slightly to allow for addition of shelves.

Patch Smaller Trailer
Last season the small trailer was damaged, as part of Doug,s project the damage was repaired.

Clean Band Shed
The band shed was cleaned out and re organized.

State Large Group Results

The Ray-Pec Bands have a long history of Exemplary "1" ratings at large group festival. The three plaques pictured above are only part of our collection. Friday, March 11, 2016 the Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band both earned "1" ratings from each of the four judges (three judges in stage performance and one judge for sight-reading). Each band will add an additional year to the plaques shown above. Each student in these groups will also receive a blue state medal. Symphonic Band is under the direction of Dillon Jarrett and Jennifer Gibson with assistance from Brandon McCoy. Wind Symphony is under the direction of John Wilson with assistance from Brandon McCoy.

Percussion ensemble and Concert Band received Outstanding "2" ratings at the festival. Both groups received a combination of "1" and "2" ratings from the various judges. Each student will receive a red state medal for their performance. This is Ray-Pec's first year to present a percussion ensemble in the State Large Group Festival. Percussion Ensemble is under the direction of Brandon McCoy. Concert Band is under the direction of John Wilson.

Amazing Results at the 2015 All-District Band Auditions

Band students auditioned for the West Central Missouri Music Educator's Association All-District Band Saturday, November 7, 2015. The audition process involves students preparing challenging musical etudes and scales prior to audition day. Students compete for a chair in one of two bands, the Honor Band and the Honorable Mention Band. Over 500 students in the West Central district auditioned throughout the day. Ray-Pec had 52 students named as members of the two groups or as alternates (see list below). Both bands will perform January 9, 2016 on the campus of University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. Students who made the top group, the Honor Band, will also be eligible to audition for the Missouri All-State Band on December 5, 2015.

55 Students make the All-District Band

Congratulations to the Ray-Pec Band students who made the All-District Band! The students prepared audition material to be played for experienced judges. The students who make the All-District Honor Band and Honorable Mention Band will go to UCM in Warrensburg, MO on January 9 and 10 to rehearse and perform. Students who made the Honor Band are also eligible to audition for the All-State Band.

The marching band competed in the Blue Springs South Marching Festival. In preliminary competition, the band earned 3rd in its class. In finals, the band placed 8th overall.
